An exam invigilator is an essential part of every school and college. Being an exam invigilator is a great way to earn some extra money during exam season and/or gain some experience within an education setting to add to your CV.

Who can be an exam invigilator?

Anyone can be an exam invigilator. If you have good communication, organisation and administrative skills, with the ability to adhere to rules and regulations, this could be perfect opportunity.

You don’t need any qualifications and you will be fully informed of the correct procedures before your first session.

However, you will have to undergo a DBS check, which checks your personal record of any criminal convictions and cautions.

About Exam Invigilating

You will be responsible for maintaining correct conduct and ensure all students follow the exam rules and regulations.

Exam invigilating periods are usually from January to June and you can be paid anything from £8p/h and above (dependent on school/college and area). Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor students to ensure

    • No speaking rule

    • No cheating

    • Equal opportunities to demonstrate abilities

  • Provide necessary equipment

  • Distribute and collect papers

  • Support unwell students

  • Be aware of procedures and support
